Lansen Nursery Website

Established in 1990, Lansen Nursery is a specialist producer of outdoor plants, supplying high street retail and garden centres. The company also produce and supply product for the UK landscaping trade. Located on a 10 acre site in Spalding, Lincolnshire, at the heart of one of the nation’s largest horticultural production areas, Lansen Nursey produces approximately 3 million plants per year and is recognised as one of the most modern and progressive horticultural businesses in the industry.

Lansen Nursery works closely with its customers to deliver bespoke packages that meet their exact requirements, delivered on time and competitively priced.

Lansen’s directors approached PSP-IT to design and build a responsive website that showcased and complemented its progressive approach to technology. The site needed to demonstrate to visitors everything that they need to know about Lansen Nursery. It should showcase their latest products and their availability with easy-to-navigate pages, giving the end user a really enjoyable and informative visit to the site.

Site visitors should ultimately navigate to the Contact page, allowing the potential supplier to either send an email or fill out a form to introduce themselves to the team.

Requirements

Following initial discussions between Jan Lansen, Managing Director of Lansen Nursery, and our customer service team, the following requirements were defined:

  • A new contemporary design for their website
  • A responsive website enabling the site to be viewed on all mobile devices
  • A content management system which can be self-administered
  • A meet the team page, where prospective suppliers can see the staff who run the nursery
  • A Contact Us page for potential suppliers to contact the team at Lansen Nursery
  • An interactive calendar to display product availability throughout the year

Solution

The first phase of the project was to gather all the client’s requirements and produce a mock-up of the Home page designs along with 2 other pages. The Lansen team could then view and approve the design ideas and any requested adjustments could be made before proceeding further.

The functional specification, which outlines all of the requirements for the creation of the new website, was then drawn up. This covered in detail the technical and developmental components required for the web build and defines where the fields, pages, workflow and logic will be positioned throughout the site.

The completed functional specification was then passed to Lansen Nursery for their review and sign off. Once both parties had signed the documentation, PSP began the development of the new site.

The new website has been developed using The Umbraco CMS (Content Management System) platform, including the addition of fully responsive pages for use on tablet and mobile devices. The Umbraco CMS platform is straightforward and easy to use, meaning that appointed administrators at Lansen Nursery can quickly learn how to manage website content, creating, uploading and deleting site pages.
